Bodywork For Somatic Guides
Bodywork and touch skills are considered a primary skills offering for somatic guides of all varieties. This course is the 1 st in a comprehensive series which offers a complete introduction to the powerful somatic skills of osteopathic touch, movement, and somatic therapy.
Built around universal principles derived from osteopathic bodywork, each course focuses upon particular themes in quality of touch, technique, and movement. Presented via experiential learning for practical and on-going development of skill in the therapist, the series is intended for new and advanced students alike.
Techniques and principles featured are safe, simple to learn, highly adaptable, and fun! A variety of direct and indirect bodywork techniques, functional movement explorations and guidance on applications of use. The interplay of somatic therapy, touch, movement, and awareness are explored throughout the series.
Course material is appropriate for anyone with an interest in somatically focused training: one-on-one guides, ceremony leaders, body workers, and therapists.
Context of application within a variety of settings and scopes of practice will be covered.Particularly, the need for skillful touch by professionals within their boundaries of licensure.

“Structure”: 3- Day Immersion Course
Course Material
Explore the myofascial system and embodiment of physical movement in space.
Hands on skills focus upon direct lengthening soft tissue techniques derived from Thai massage, positional and myofascial release.
Somatic movement explorations emphasize the physical body’s internal framework, space, and transmission of power. We explore gravity as the primary organizing force of structure.
Principles of structure in functional movement integration will be highlighted.
Includes use of weights, resistance bands and suspension trainers for somatic movement.
Location and Training Environment
The course and environment have been designed to provide a nourishing personal and community experience beyond the learning of the course material.
Limited to 8- 12 participants for an intimate learning experience and opportunity to deepen in
community with other professionals.
The second evening includes a group outing to the nearby Maitreya community spa house. Maitreya is a Santa Cruz legend, set in a beautiful garden with clothing optional outdoor hot tubs, sauna, cold plunge etc.

Assistance securing affordable local housing options is available.
Dinner will be provided after class the first and second evening.
Beverages and snacks are provided all 3 class days.
90- minute lunch break with ample food options nearby.
Course Outline
Day 1- Principles
- Touch as direct nervous system access
- Osteopathic principals of tissue release
- Basic anatomy, contraindications and health evaluations
- Bodywork mechanics and working on the mat safely
- Introduce positional and direct myofascial release
Day 2- Techniques
- Various direct tissue techniques for the entire body
- Engaging functional movement somatically
- Evening Activity: Maitreya Community Spa
Day 3- Integration
- Practical application of somatically oriented touch
- Movement and hands on practice
- Individualized instruction and feedback

Students and professionals in therapy, consciousness guides, coaches, movement
practitioners and bodyworkers will receive the most professional benefit.
No previous bodywork training is necessary.
Those with bodywork or other professional experience will be met at their level of skill.
